Nashville's The Sufis have herein presented the absolute best throwback psychedelic tunes I've ever heard.

Cardiacs - Archive Cardiacs

Odd punk-prog, definitely an acquired taste. Highly layered and spastic yet containing a distinctive thread of musicality throughout. "The mix is almost head-spinningly overloaded at times, with tiny little voices and distant exclamations vying with saxophone parps, pots and pans, and fine-tuned kitchen sinks rattling around. All this detail, though, is cleverly orchestrated chaos that never forgets that it is there to embellish the songs, and it never drowns them out." I've seen them described as a mix of Frank Zappa, The Kinks and Devo, which comes pretty close. Just listen to the damn thing. You can always delete it if you're not hip to it.

The Janitors - Worker Drone Queen EP (2012)

Stockholm, Sweden four-piece purveyors of dark psychedelic rock.

Here's a kitschy bit of prose they use to describe themselves:

"The Janitors were originally born during a night of heavy drinking in the Southern outskirts of Stockholm. Raised by wolves until the age of two they then, like Mowgli, went back to the bright lights of the big city and forgot about their upbringing. Eventually The Janitors got fed up with everyday life and fueled by folköl and an uncontrollable urge to hiss and make noise they went running back into the woods. And now, here they are again."

The Caretaker - An Empty Bliss Beyond This World (2011)

An Empty Bliss Beyond This World is most likely the paragon of beauty in terms of recorded music from 2011. Old 78's rearranged in some places and brought in and out of focus in others, complete with original pop and hiss. At times spooky, at others ethereally transcendent. The structure of the pieces herein is meant to mimic the way human memory functions, particularly in Alzheimer's patients; but that's just a piece of ephemera as far as I'm considered. No need to focus on how this experiment actually plays out, the music's amazing.
